Prevention

The script can be used as a procedural map to identify the points where the crime commission process should stop.

Developing a crime reduction strategy involves deciding what part of the crime commission process should be prevented or encouraged.

Once the crime commission process is represented as a discrete-event model,

you should systematically look for ways to:

  • influence the offender’s decision
  • influence the offender’s attempt to commit an action
  • influence the completion and outcome of an action

Example:

  • S1 – location: outside a house
  • S2 – location: inside a house
  • A12 – entering in someone else’s house
